WSLP Provides the Tri-Lakes with a New Choice
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Tri-Lake area residents were offered a new choice on their radios this morning, Monday, April 2, when WSLP-FM began its first day of broadcasting. The 11,000-watt station hit the airways at 6 a.m. offering a blend of adult contemporary music ranging from today’s artists including John Mayer, Christina Aguilera, and Faith Hill to yesterday’s favorites from Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles and Madonna. The first morning broadcast also kept its listeners informed with international, national and local news, weather and sports.
“This was an extremely exciting day,” said Jonathan Becker, the station’s owner. “For several years I’ve dreamed of having a radio station in this area, and at last it’s come true and to offer a brand new signal in the area is a terrific and unique opportunity.”
At 11,000-watts, the Lake Placid based station will soon carry the largest signal based in the Tri-Lakes, serving Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake and surrounding communities. “Our target audience is men and women between the ages of 25-54,” explained WSLP general manager Jon Lundin. “Our goal is to provide a unique blend of broadcasting that people will be able to listen to throughout the entire day.”
WSLP’s broadcast team includes Jay Fink, John Harper, Lundin, Kellie Quinn and Joletta Yates. Harper and Yates will handle weekday mornings together, between 6-10 a.m., while Fink serves as the mi-day announcer, between 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Quinn is in charge of the afternoon show, between 3-7 p.m., while Lundin can be heard between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. weekdays.
“We have a great lineup of air-talents for this station,” remarked Becker. “I was very fortunate to put together such a strong team with so much radio experience.”
Jim Williams has also been hired as the station’s general sales manager. In addition to her morning responsibilities, Yates will also serves as a sales account manager.
WSLP’s special weekend programming includes Breakfast with the Beatles, Sunday’s at 7 a.m., Rick Dees’ Top-40, Sundays 8 a.m.-12-noon, the House of Blues Radio Hour with Dan Aykroyd, Sundays 8-9 p.m. and the Magic of the 80’s from 9-11 p.m., also on Sundays evenings.
