
WPTZ-TV’s (Channel 5) Tom Messner is now a member of our broadcast team! Tom is the Chief Meteorologist for the NBC affiliate in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and is now WSLP’s Chief Meteorologist. Tom has also been seen on national programs including the Today Show, Regis & Kelly and the Weather Channel, and can be heard weekdays, Monday through Friday.
You can also catch Messner’s Precision Weather forecasts weeknights on “First at 5” and on NewsChannel 5 at 6 and 11 p.m.
In addition to Tom Messner, WSLP-FM has also been named the official radio station of Whiteface Mountain. As the mountain’s official radio station, WSLP-FM will air hourly updates, between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., at 18-minutes past each hour, promoting ORDA events and ski and snowboard reports from Whiteface. WSLP-FM is also designated the official radio station of international, World Cup and world championship events, through 2009, at each of ORDA’s venues. WSLP will also serve as the official radio station for next year’s bobsled, skeleton and luge world championships, which are the final Worlds events prior to the 2010 winter games in Vancouver, Canada.
At 11,000-watts, the Lake Placid based station carries one of the largest signals based in the Tri-Lakes, serving Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake and surrounding communities. WSLP-FM’s broadcast line-up features John Harper and Joletta Yates, weekday mornings from 6-10 a.m., Robbie Raggs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Kellie Quinn from 3-7 p.m. Jon Lundin is also heard from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The station’s special weekend programming includes Music in the Blue Line - with Robbie Raggs, Saturday evenings from 7-8 p.m. and Sunday evenings from 6-7 p.m. The one-hour program features local musicians, from the Tri-Lakes and Adirondacks. Also, Breakfast with the Beatles, can be heard Saturday and Sundays at 7 a.m., Magic of 80’s, Saturdays from 8-10 p.m. and Rick Dees’ Weekly Top-40, Sundays 8 a.m.-12-noon. The House of Blues Radio Hour with Dan Aykroyd airs Sundays from 7-8 p.m. and the Legends of Jazz with Ramsey Lewis also airs Sundays evenings from 8-10 p.m.
